2022 Week 9 Bear Tracks

On Friday night, the Bears headed to Fountain Inn High School for the first matchup in school history. While Fountain Inn only rostered freshmen and sophomores, they elected to play a full varsity schedule. And with that, BHP overmatched Fountain Inn nearly the whole game.

BHP shot out of the gates scoring on a 67-yard rush from Marquise Henderson on the second play of the game. The rest of the first quarter was less than ideal, as the Bears did not score again and had two turnovers in the remanding of the quarter.

As lackluster as the first quarter turned out to be, the second quarter was the complete opposite. BHP scored fast and often. The Bears set a new BHP record with 36 points in a quarter. And with that, a running clock was enacted in the second half. Time itself didn't slow the Bears down and BHP scored another 28 points in the second half.

The final score seems as if the Bears had a perfect night, and in a lot of aspects, they did. However, every game provides real examples for the Bears to get better. The Bears will use this experience and get back to work as they now focus on the Southside Tigers.

Week 9 Preview

BHP comes back home as they host the Southside Tigers this Friday night. The Bears will once again be the team nearly everyone will expect to win, and win big. However, games are always played and outcomes are not based on expectations but on actual play. So just like last week, BHP has to enter this game with the outlook of a nameless faceless opponent and must strive for perfection in every aspect of the game.

Southside is 3-5 on the season and 1-2 in the region. Southside’s wins have come against Pickens, Carolina Academy, and Palmetto, while their losses came against, Christ Church, Walhalla, Easley, Wren, and Powdersville. In their wins, Southside averaged 34.7 points per game while allowing 16.7. In their losses, they averaged 10.4 points per game and allowed 47.2.

With the win over Fountain Inn, BHP officially solidified a playoff birth, and with a win over Southside, the worst BHP could do in the region is third. However, third place is not necessarily an accomplishment that BHP would be happy with, so it will set a showdown with Wren next week for a home playoff opportunity.

The Bears have to continue to play up to their ability and not to their opponent’s ability. BHP gets another chance to show that they are still one of the top teams in 3A and anytime we get the Bears on the football field is a good Friday.

Quick Stats

Conclusion

We are eight games into the season and only have two left in the regular season. The Bears have made huge strides this season but still have a lot ahead of them. BHP needs to come out and show their explosiveness and show why they are a top team in the state. And this week, do so in front of a home crowd.

Prediction: BHP 49 - Southside 12
