We want to start with a congratulations to all of the Bear players and coaches. The hard work put in all year paid off and we want to congratulate you.
The reason the team and all Bear fans can celebrate is because of the dominating performance of BHP against Daniel in the region championship finale. Daniel came into the game undefeated while BHP had 2 losses on the year. BHP was able to take a 14-0 lead, but Daniel scored late in the 2nd quarter to cut BHP’s halftime lead to 7. Both teams scored in the third to make the score 21-14 going into the 4th quarter. In the 4th quarter BHP exploded for 21 points and sealed the game to take the 2018 Region 1-AAAA championship.
Week 10 Review
We proclaimed Friday night after the game that BHP’s performance against Wren was the most impressive of the season. After reviewing the stats and adding the proliferation of the Wren’s offense, that maybe an understatement. BHP won on both offense and defense. The 5 offensive TDs that tied for the second most this season, coupled with the Bear’s second defensive score of the season showed the dominance BHP had been searching for all season.
BHP showed a level of execution on Friday night that has been lacking all season. From limiting dropped passes, to only 1 lost fumble (in the fourth quarter as BHP was up 41-10), to very few missed tackles, BHP played up to their talent, not down to their opponent.
We also need to acknowledge the near perfect play calling and situational football the BHP coaches presented. From our point of view, the play calling put the players in positions to truly dominate the game, and that is what they did. It also seems that they may be cooking up even more for the next couple of games.

Regular Season Review
BHP continued their momentum they gained from the previous 4 weeks and rolled through an undefeated Daniel team. BHP did what they have been doing best lately; focus on power runs and take advantage of advantageous matchups in the passing game.
Although the outcome was very impressive, the performance was far from perfect. With the first truly cold night, BHP had a hard time keeping control of the football ending up with 4 fumbles and 2 lost fumbles. Turnovers have been the only troublesome aspect of BHP’s late season run. In the last 3 games they have had 6 turnovers. As competition increases, ball security has to improve.
With the win against Daniel, BHP added their 11th region championship in school history and 3rd region championship under Coach Blackston. Also, all but 2 BHP region championships have been won since 2000.
