2019 Round 1 Bear Tracks

BHP came into the final game of the regular season with an outside chance to win the region championship. After a hard-fought game, BHP ended the season on a two-game losing streak and in third place in the region. The match-up against Daniel felt like many of the past: close and tough and it came down to the last drive of the game. With the loss, BHP ends the regular season with a record of 6-3 and 3-2 in the region.

With the loss Friday night, BHP ends up in third place in the region. That places them in a matchup against York (Region 3, 4th place) in the first round of the playoffs. This matchup comes with a silver lining though, as BHP will take on York at home.

Round 1 Preview

Even ending the season with two consecutive losses, BHP secures a first-round home game and will take on York. York is the fourth seed out of Region 3. Without bringing up too many bad memories, BHP took on a team out of Region 3 last season in the first round and lost. Since 2014 BHP is 1-4 against Region 3 opponents with their only win coming over Lancaster in 2016.

York comes into this game with a 4-6 record and 2-3 in region play. However, the six teams that beat York have a combined record of 50-10 with three of them being undefeated. Along with that, they went to overtime against Westwood and if they would have won that matchup they would have been in third place in their region.

This York team will be looking to beat up on the Bears just as their conference mates have in the past. BHP needs to be more dialed than they have been this season because every team they play from here out will have as much talent and will require an A+ game from the Bears.

Conclusion

The last two weeks have not given BHP the outcomes we all have wanted but nevertheless, there is still a game or games to be played. But now the stakes are the highest they can be, win or go home.

There is so much talent on this team they can beat anyone they play, but the mindset and execution must be at the highest level of the season as the Bears head into the playoffs. We see BHP refocusing their mindset and taking care of business against York.

Prediction: BHP 35 - York 17
