BHP’s game against Wren was moved up a day and at times it looked like BHP brought their JV team to the game. BHP lost to Wren 55-28 and goes to 6-2 on the season and 3-1 in region play.
Although the outcome was a 27 point loss for the Bears, BHP was within 6 points at one point in the 2nd half. BHP’s dominating rushing attack was suppressed, but they were able to gain major yardage through the air. Nevertheless, the loss puts BHP’s backs against the wall and to win the region they will need some help from another region team this Friday night.
Week 10 Preview
Coming off a disappointing loss to Wren, BHP will have to bounce back against an undefeated Daniel team. Daniel is one of only three AAAA teams that are undefeated and currently sits at the top of Region 1. This matchup has nearly always decided the region title and this year is no different. Since 2000, BHP or Daniel have either won or tied for first place in the region 16 out of the 19 seasons. Although BHP will need some help from Walhalla, three different teams could be crowned region champs this Friday.
With all of the playoff and region championship ramifications on the line, the only part BHP can control is their matchup with Daniel. Recently, BHP has had the upper hand against Daniel winning the last 4 matchups. However, BHP is 20-29 all-time against Daniel.
BHP will have to play their best game of the season against Daniel to come out ahead. Getting back to controlling the game and not chasing an outcome will be the key to BHP winning. Daniel will present the toughest test BHP will face this season and we will see how BHP can respond.

Playoff Predictions
The wide range of outcomes in Region 1 also brings a wide range of opponents BHP could play in their first-round playoff game. We will give our prediction for BHP’s first-round playoff opponent based on the three possible region outcomes we presented above. All three outcomes have BHP with a home game in the first round.
BHP is region champs:
- This would have BHP matching up with an at-large team from the upper state. This one is hard to tell because the bracket committee will choose the at-large team and there is not a firm formula for who will get the bid. However, here is our prediction:
- The possibilities could be Palmetto, the loser of Greer and Blue Ridge, or Lancaster.
- Our guess is that Palmetto will go as the top at-large team and play Region 2’s first seed. Then we project that Greer will beat Blue Ridge and Blue Ridge will become the second at-large team. That means BHP would take on Blue Ridge in the 1st round of the playoffs.
BHP is 2nd in the region:
- This would have BHP taking on Region 4’s third-place team. Currently, this would be Orangeburg-Wilkinson. This is very dependent on their game against Lower Richland and the Crestwood and Lakewood game. The other option would be Crestwood.
BHP is 3rd in the region:
- This would have BHP taking on Region 3’s fourth-place team. Currently, this would be York. We feel this is pretty set too although if some upsets happen, BHP could face Westwood like last year.
Conclusion
This will be the 50th game played between BHP and Daniel and its importance is just like most of the others. With a region championship on the line for multiple teams and important playoff seeding hanging in the balance, we hope to see the complete BHP game that we have been waiting for all season.
Prediction: BHP 28 - Daniel 24
