BHP kept their undefeated region record intact Friday against Pickens. In a game that the Bears could have overlooked and faltered, BHP took care of business in dominant fashion. BHP played extremely well on both sides of the ball and dominated an overmatched opponent. With that win, BHP puts even more importance on the next two regular-season games as the season winds down.

Week 9 Preview

But now, the games only get harder from here on out. BHP travels to Wren for this Week 9 matchup and the stakes are as high as ever. With a win, BHP sets up a showdown with Daniel, in the same fashion from last season, for the region title. With a BHP loss, there could be a three-way tie for first place depending on the outcome of the BHP and Daniel matchup the following week. Nevertheless, BHP controls their own destiny and this week matters more than any other this season.

The matchup against Wren will be the toughest test so far this season. Wren leads all AAAA SC schools in total points and points differential and only Chapman (AAA) has scored more total points this season in SC than Wren. Wren comes into this matchup 6-2 with their only losses coming to Daniel (28-34) and Camden County GA (44-52).

Wren will bring a prolific passing attack to the game on Friday and it will be the focal point for both teams. BHP will be looking to slow down Wren’s Joe Owens who comes into the game averaging 325 passing yards per game with a 61% completion percentage and only 5 interceptions. Nevertheless, we hope to see both teams bring their “A” games and put on a show this Friday night.

Conclusion

BHP has been playing their best football this season since region play has started. Even with how well BHP has played lately they will need to step up their performance to an even higher level this week. With a region title on the line BHP has to play great defense against a great offense and control the clock and tempo with a dominating run game.

If it were not for a last-second TD pass by Daniel to beat Wren, we would be talking about this game as the matchup to crown an outright region champion. However they did not and because of that outcome, this game is a survival game for the Hurricanes. BHP should expect their toughest matchup of the season, but we see BHP coming out on top.

Prediction: BHP 35 -- Wren 21
