Charles Dickens wrote “A Tale of Two Cities” which I guess has a lot to do with football because that is how Friday’s matchup against Powdersville felt, except instead of Two Cities it was A Tale of Two Halves. I’m sure you’ve picked up on it, but I’ve never read that book.
BHP opened up their 2019 season with what, in the end, was a dominant win over Powdersville, 49-9. However, the score is slightly misleading. BHP was only leading 7-3 at halftime. The Bears were struggling to keep drives alive or score. But from halftime on, BHP put together one of the best rushing performances in their recent history and started to show signs of the offense we expected from the start.
Now from passing Powdersville to looking toward Greenville, BHP will be taking on an opponent that will be one of the more imposing tests of this early season.
BHP will need to quickly turn their focus to Greenville. Greenville comes into the game 1-1 with a 49-6 win over Wade Hampton last week.
BHP is 8-8 all-time against Greenville, but those games have included some of the most entertaining games in BHP history. Let’s start with last season. Greenville scores with 9:50 left in the game to take the lead 24-17. BHP could not sustain a drive until the last one of the game and with 51 seconds left BHP scored on a 12-yard pass to come within 1 point. With the game on the line, BHP decides to go for 2. BHP’s Camden Bracher passes to Avery Reece for the go-ahead 2 point conversion which sealed the win for the Bears. There was also the 2017 matchup for the region championship where, after BHP returned a kickoff 97 yards for a go-ahead touchdown, Greenville marched down and scored with 20 seconds left to take the win. Or in 2016 where Greenville stormed out with 21 first-half points, just to see BHP answer and win by 3. And even the 2006 match for the region crown where BHP won in a shootout 45-41.
With that type of history we can only expect some spectacular play this Friday night.

As great as it was to see BHP get on track and have success in the running game, this is the week where questions about this team will really get answered. The talent Greenville has will be one of the top BHP sees all season and it will take an effort we saw in the 2nd half against Powdersville for the full game to come out on top.
Prediction: BHP 35 -- Greenville 28
