The incoming hurricane moved last week's game to Thursday, but the importance of the game was never in doubt. BHP traveled to Powdersville in a game that for most purposes determined the region champion and the number one seed in the 3A playoffs. BHP will take on the Palmetto Mustangs this Friday night. This has always been called a rivalry, but to call this a rivalry is like calling the USA vs Zimbabwe a rivalry in basketball. BHP has won 87% of the matches and this week should be no different.
Just like that, we are halfway through the regular season, and just like that BHP is 5-0 on the season. BHP finished their non-region schedule with a 44-8 win over Walhalla. The Bears sailed through against the Razorbacks gaining over 200 yards through the air. And as was the case in previous weeks, as good as the offense played the defense played just as well. Holding a Walhalla team averaging nearly 40 points per game to 8 is a statement in itself.
Another week, another Bear win! Last week I opened the Bear Tracks post talking about an ugly win over Woodruff. This week we can talk about a win over Emerald that was anything but ugly! In the game against Emerald, BHP played their most well-rounded game of the year. From the offense scoring on four consecutive drives to a defense that held the Vikings to less than 100 yards in 3 quarters, BHP dominated from start to finish.
Sometimes you try to just get out with a win and Friday night might have just been one of those for the Bears. But a good thing about an ugly win - it is still a win! As bad as that sounds, BHP had a lot of highlights against the Wolverines. From the continued great play from AJ Pendleton to some really high play from the defense and the return of Marquise Henderson. BHP will look to clean up some issues as they turn their attention to the Emerald Vikings.
Some people say 100 is just a number, but for a community like Belton and Honea Path, a school like BHP, and for all the players that have played under Coach Blackston, those wins mean much more. To start we want to say a huge congratulations to Coach Blackston for what he has formed BHP into over the last 12 years. We are proud of the team and programs he has created. And now to top it off, he is the only BHP Head Football Coach to win 100 games. Once again, Congratulations Coach Blackson! With the thought of the milestone lingering, BHP dominated from start to finish so they could put an exclamation mark on this win for Coach Blackston. From the nearly perfect first drive of the game to the outstanding defensive play to outright domination, BHP made a statement (as much as one can make in week 2) with the win.
And like that, we are off to a running (literally) start with the 2022 season! Luckily football is played in two halves, and BHP flipped the switch in the second half to get the come-from-behind win over Westside. But now BHP comes back home for their first home game of the season against the Laurens Raiders.
We have made it to Week 1 and could not be more excited. We have seen the Bears in action in the preseason but now the games start to count. We have laid out reasons to be excited for this season and this Bear team, but now it is time to channel all of that excitement as we look to the team to perform. Now, let’s get ready for the Rams!
This week we put some lofty predictions out in the ether. We have some high expectations for this Bear team and these bold predictions show just how far the team can surpass those expectations. Plus, I might as well aim high.
Each season and each new BHP team brings with them a set of questions only that team can answer. Here are 5 of the most important questions I feel this team needs to answer this season
Each season we start the blog season with some ideas that are related to BHP and the football team but not directly tied to on-field play or upcoming games. The last couple of ideas have been alternative uniforms, the wave your flag series, and the stadium atmosphere post. This year I wanted to take a little look back through the lens of my teenage years.
