BHP’s game against Wren was moved up a day and at times it looked like BHP brought their JV team to the game. BHP lost to Wren 55-28 and goes to 6-2 on the season and 3-1 in region play. Although the outcome was a 27 point loss for the Bears, BHP was within 6 points at one point in the 2nd half. BHP’s dominating rushing attack was suppressed, but they were able to gain major yardage through the air. Nevertheless, the loss puts BHP’s backs against the wall and to win the region they will need some help from another region team this Friday night.

BHP kept their undefeated region record intact Friday against Pickens. In a game that the Bears could have overlooked and faltered, BHP took care of business in dominant fashion. BHP played extremely well on both sides of the ball and dominated an overmatched opponent. With that win, BHP puts even more importance on the next two regular-season games as the season winds down.

BHP hosted their Anderson county rival Palmetto on Friday night and just as so many times before, BHP came away with a double-digit victory. It was military appreciation night at BHP and it would have taken a full army on the Palmetto side to slow down BHP’s offense. BHP’s offense was the star of the night once again and had one of their best performances of the season. The win over Palmetto puts BHP at 5-1 for the season and more importantly, 2-0 in region play. With that win, Coach Blackston gets to a level of wins no BHP head coach has ever made. The win over Palmetto was Coach Blackston’s 89th career win which makes him the winningest coach in BHP history. Congratulations Coach!

BHP opened up region play against Walhalla and it seemed like BHP left the bus at home because they were running all night long. Walhalla came into the game undefeated and ranked #6 in some SC high school football polls. At the end of the game they received a 20 point loss and saw BHP’s RJ Ellis rush for over 350 yards against them. But now, BHP turns their eyes on to their rival and closest geographic school, Palmetto. This game not only has the rivalry aspect, but it has recently become a region game for each team.

The last time BHP tried to play a home game they were forced to cancel due to lightning strikes. Things were striking this past Friday night, but it wasn’t storms. It was the band striking up the fight song after each BHP touchdown. BHP finished off non-conference play with a 77-21 win over Seneca and a record-breaking 2nd half. Now the games will start to count toward a region championship and a playoff berth. Plus, this first region match-up against Walhalla should mean just a little more to the Bears this time around than it has in the past.

BHP made the relatively short bus ride up to Pendleton last Friday night for their third consecutive road game this season. BHP was able to take care of business and come away with a 42-21 win over the Bulldogs. From the Bulldogs to the Wildcats. BHP will host Seneca for their first home game of the season this Friday night.

The Thunder Rolled Friday night and we aren’t talking Garth Brooks. A much anticipated game against T.L. Hanna was cancelled due to lightning. Now the Bears turn their focus to another Anderson County school, the Pendleton Bulldogs. Hopefully this week the only thunder and lightning we see is the Bears’ RJ Ellis - Jeremiah Johnson running back combo.

Watching the play on the field Friday night felt like we were in an emergency room after suburban moms were given power tools and had just finished a Fixer Upper watch party; there were a lot of self inflicted injuries. The injuries were not physical for the most part, but turnovers that crushed BHP’s ability put together scoring drives. Although BHP was within striking distance of the lead the whole game, BHP either had a turnover or a costly penalty that derailed their comeback over and over again on Friday night. But now that must be put in the rearview, because one of the top teams in the entire state will be coming to BHP this week for opening night at the home of the Bears.

Charles Dickens wrote “A Tale of Two Cities” which I guess has a lot to do with football because that is how Friday’s matchup against Powdersville felt, except instead of Two Cities it was A Tale of Two Halves. I’m sure you’ve picked up on it, but I’ve never read that book.
